Troubleshooting: Common Reasons for SCORM Upload Issues
Common Reasons for SCORM Upload Issues
When you are ready to publish an eLearning course from your authoring tool, be sure to review this list of basic requirements to ensure successful content deployment in the LMS:
- You
must be sure that you are creating SCORM-compliant content using an
eLearning authoring tool, such as Adobe Captivate or Articulate
Storyline to produce a zipped SCORM file. We support SCORM 1.2 and 2004.
Attempts to load PowerPoint presentations or zipped files (like .7z
format) that are not SCORM-compliant will cause failure to load or
failure to launch for the course.
- The
size of the zipped file must not exceed 500 MB in order to use the LMS
course SCORM tab upload process. Files exceeding 500 MB must be loaded
by a Latitude developer. You can submit a request to support@latitudelearning.com to initiate the process and receive an estimate for the service.
- If
you have your authored content published properly in a SCORM zip file,
when course deployment fails, there are several things we like you to
take a look at:
--The most common problem is the use of special characters (e.g. &, #, $, @, *) in places where the LMS and the XML in the SCORM package don't like them. Allowable characters are alphanumeric, hyphens (-), and underscores (_). Places such as these are where special characters can cause issues:
----Course Code in the LMS e.g. BASICS(1) or COMPLIANCE2019&2020
----Filename of the SCORM .zip file e.g. BASICS(1)CONTENT.ZIP or COMPLY2019&2020.zip
----Some
areas within your authored content - possibly in quiz titles, question
titles, answers/choices, slide titles -- any element that may become
interactional and navigational data in the SCORM/XML files could be
suspect. They should also not be used in SCORM publishing settings like
Name, Title, and Identifier.
- The imsmanifest.xml file
must be at the root of the zip file (can't be buried in the zip file
folder structure). When you open the contents of the zip file, you will
see folders and files listed. The imsmanifest.xml file should be visible without the need to open a folder.
Note: Old eLearning courses, primarily published prior to 2020, may contain Flash content and will no longer function. They must be updated to HTML5 output.
